Society of St. Andrew Responds to Midwest Floods

The Society of St. Andrew (SoSA) has an important role to play in the Midwest flood relief efforts.  They report that as of July 2008, half a million pounds of of fresh produce, mostly potatoes, has been delivered in midwest states suffering from devastating flooding.

Six tractor-trailer loads have gone to regional food banks serving areas of Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri and Ohio. Eight tractor-trailer loads were received by churches in these states where volunteers bagged the potatoes then delivered them to local food banks, church pantries, shelters, soup kitchens and other service agencies that feed the hungry. This food has provided 1.8 million servings of nutritious food to those in need in the Midwest.

Throughout the year, the Society of St. Andrew delivers food to areas of need across the nation – rain or shine. As it becomes available, SoSA will be shipping even more food into the Midwest to help alleviate hunger.
