Pastoral
Care and Wellness
A
subcommittee of Committee on Ministry
Caring for the wellness of pastors,
educators and their families
Pastoral
Care and Wellness' primary responsibility is to offer pastoral
support to minister members of Presbytery, educators serving churches of
Shenandoah Presbytery, and their families - sharing with them the joys and
concerns of their lives .. 'from the womb to the tomb.' This support
includes but is not limited to:
- Pastoral
care during illness, births, deaths, new beginnings, periods of transition,
etc.
- Requests
for and recognition of one's Honorable Retirement
- Coordinating
the annual Necrology and written memorials for minister members
- Orientation
for pastors new to Shenandoah Presbytery and newly ordained pastors
- Initiatives
to enhance wellness
- Coordination
of Sabbaticals for clergy and certified Christian educators
The Committee
also works to strengthen the relationships between the Presbytery and its
congregations through Triennial visits; and works in conjunction with the
Professional Development committee to administer the Rehoboth program, and
provide opportunities for continuing education and enrichment for pastors/educators.
A Vision for the Future Work of the Committee
We are planning a luncheon for Wednesday,
May 12th at Massanetta Springs Conference Center in Harrisonburg, VA for
all Honorably Retired clergy, their spouses and other retired church personnel
under the care of the Board of Pensions. Helen Locklear from the BOP
will be there to answer questions. We anticipate a time of fellowship
and fun for all. Watch for further details closer to the date.

The Presbytery of Shenandoah requires that all new calls for full-time,
installed pastors and full-time Certified Christian Educators include a compensated
sabbatical of at least three (3) months after six (6) years of service to
a particular position.
Triennial
Visits
Presbytery representatives make the effort to "be there" every 3 years
to visit each congregation to help strengthen the relationships between
the Presbytery and its congregations.
